Hello and welcome to the forum!
So, let's see what we can find out that about that SBC block you've drug up out of the garage!
The block casting number is just interesting, generally it gives a range of years and a range of displacement for the engines that are made from the casting, as you have shown in the info you have from the casting number.
The numbers that tell us exactly about the engine as it was put into a vehicle at the vehicle assembly plant are the Engine Assembly Code and the Engine Partial VIN Code.
These are hand stamped numbers normally on a raised pad at the passenger side, front of the block, just below where the head sits on the block.
If the block has been decked, often times then these numbers are partially obscured or totally gone.
In the case of a very early SBC Block (pre-1971), these numbers are still hand stamped, but at various locations on the block.

So, with that said, let's take a look at the promising number you've posted;
V0328WK - this is the Engine Assembly Code, it decodes as; V = Flint, MI (vehicle assembly plant), 0328 = March 28 (date code), WK (Engine Suffix Code)= 1969 (model year), 350 CID, tur hydro (transmission), 255 HP, 4 BBl, C-10 to 35.
So, from the Engine Suffix Code, you have you a bonafide 1969 Chevy Small Block 350 CID pickup truck engine!
Not a Z28 engine, unless in that Canadian Plant (not Flint!), they made a Z28 pickup in '68!
:eek:

Probably not the news you were looking for, but I promise it's reliable!
;)

Hope some of this helps.
Don't be a stranger on the forum, stop in from time to time and post some info what your doing with your '68 truck 350, or what's happening with the Z28 your looking fo rthe engine for!

Here's my best shot;
Block Casting Number;
3970010 = 302 CID, 1969, 4 Bolt mains, Z-28 Camaro
3970010 = 327 CID, 1969, 2 Bolt mains, Trucks and Industrial
3970010 = 350 CID, 1969 - 1980, 2 or 4 Bolt mains
This Block Casting Number was one of the most widely used and longest cast blocks.

Engine Assembly Code;
V0617TYX = V = Flint, MI (vehicle assembly plant), 0617 = June 17 (date code), TYX (Engine Suffix Code) = 1975, 350 CID, conv.cab, L LS9 (options), 165 HP, 4 BBL, C-10 to 2500

Engine Partial VIN Code;
C6F470578 = This one is difficult to decode, it doesn't follow the proper format for a modern (1972 and later) Engine Partial VIN Code.
Please refer to the last P.M. I sent for more info on this.

In the big picture, the Block Casting Number gives a range of model years and displacements for a particular engine.
However, the Engine Assembly Code give the specifics of the engine and vehicle it left the assembly plant in.
The Engine Partial VIN Code is only helpful to 'match' (matching numbers) an engine to a vehicle.

I'm hopeful some of this info will be of some use to you.
