I have an engine pulled from a 79 Chevy pickup that I'm putting in an s10. The casting number is 10066036 and then a lip on the front of the block has 2M0503 and below that is 5VP. Thanks for the help.

I've already read about the casting number: 86 and up, 2 or 4 bolt main, 250hp, etc. but can anyone narrow it down with the other markings on there? Thanks again.

I'm assuming, "lip on the front of the block has 2M0503 and below that is 5VP", the lip is located on the passenger side, front of the block, just under where the head sits.
If so, this is an Engine Assembly Code, 2M0503. the '2' would indicate Pontiac, the 'M' indicates GM of Mexico, the '0503' is a date code, May 3.
I seen this 5VP stamping before and haven't been able to make any sense of it.
I'm thinking this is a GM Mexico Crate or Replacement engine.
Difficult to tell what HP, or other equipment it came with.
Normally, crate engines come with the sheet metal on them (valve covers, timing cover, oil pan), but no intake, etc.

Hope some of this helps!
