Recently purchased a 65 El Camino that the previous owner had put a 350 in. The casting number (14016379) tells me it's a 77-79 crate engine. The only engine code on the front passenger side of the block is V0709800. It was built in Flint on July, 9th, great. WHAT THE HECK DOES THE 800 MEAN??? I can't find this any where! Please help.

I have been seeking information on my engine with a similar S/N configuration, as have many others I have seen, but nobody, including Chevrolet has come up with any information.
Chevy referred me to the GM Heritage Center who likewise could provide no information.
My motor is a 305 w/1 piece rear main seal (1986 or later) in a 1984 C10, and, as the heads are early style (valve cover holes around the perimeter rather than down the center) I must conclude that the short block was replaced at some time with the newer design.
If these style serial numbers are for crate engines, it is likely that there is no data base to be found anywhere.
