that ID number is weird. Usually they have two letters at the end of the code for vehicle ID. This could mean several things; a service replacement block which was ordered for a specific vehicle(the first letter) but no transmission code(second letter). It could also mean a mistake at the factory. The paint on the engine looks original and green of the type they used in trucks back in that time period. Beware that many 283s used the same casting number as 327s but in trucks the 283s were painted gray and the 327s were painted green. Likewise 348s were gray while 409s were green. Until you fine the date it was cast this will be a rough estimate but I think you got and early 60s 327 truck motor.

casting number 3737789 is 283...1958-1964, not what you said...59-61, 283 is wrong

T0518D is (T)Tonawanda, (0518) May 18th D Powerglide....1958

Motormonkey is incorrect In the 55-56-57 Chevy cars the stamping on the block, front passenger side always has a single letter for engine plant.date of mfg.....then if it's a reg or power-pac and transmission, F0127FC would be Flint...Jan 27th....PowerPac, Powerglide.
read this chart for the suffix codes for engines and trans, H.P.ratings

also look at these codes...look at the c's and especially the F's, mostly 55-56-57's
