Engine paint

What year did Chevy stop painting engine blocks blue and go to black. Rebuilding my 305 and want to keep it all original. Thanks for your input.

GM went back to black engine paint in 1983. For trucks, it was before that, 1981 or about then.

The only engines that Chevrolet ever had painted blue was the 6 cylinder engines prior to 1955. 55-on were orange before they were black.
