Trying to verify engine information. Getting ready to rebuild and would like to know if this is the original engine for the car.

Car is a 1961 Chevy Impala Convertible

Engine casting-3756519

Engine ID on front pad of block-F092ID
No partial VIN number that I can find.

Head casting-3774682

Cowl tag for car;
Style 61-1867 Body VN 1177

No other Identification that I can find right now-everything is very greasy. Just pulled the engine yesterday.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum!
From your block casting number, 3756519 = 1958 - 1962, 283 CID, 2-bolt mains.
So, your right in the right place for this to be the original engine in your '61 Impala!

From your head casting number, 3774682 = 283/327 CID, 1960 - 1967, 1.72 Intake/1.50 Exhaust
So, the heads are era specific as well!
Looking good . . . . .!

This last number you posted appears to be the Engine Assembly Code, F092ID = F = Flint, MI (vehicle assembly plant), 0921 = September 9 (date code), D = 1960, 283 CID, Powerglide, 170 HP, 2 BBL, truck & cars.
The last letter (or letters) of the Engine Assembly code is the Engine Suffix Code.
When decoded, it tells the specifics about the engine as configured when installed in the vehicle.
For the pre-1972 models this is not an exact science, each vehicle assembly plant had a lot of freedom in applying these Engine Suffix Codes before 1972.
A Government law went into effect for the 1972 model year, that standardized all the Engine Suffix Codes for all manufacturers from then on.
So, based on this information, looks like you may have an original equipment engine in your 1961 Impala.

Don't be a stranger to the forum, stop in from time to time and keep us posted on what your doing with your '61 Impala build.
