Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can identify this engine. Casting number 3970010, the engine was decked so some of the codes are gone but it has a possible partial of 11C122113 on the passenger side front behind the alternator. It also has a clock stamping on the passenger side above the oil pan plus a stamp of D-A-N with an arrow pointing at the D below the clock it has 0-E-6 stamped. Finally it has a stamped box with an M and a 5 next to the casting number. Thanks 8DF22EC8-192F-4F79-90AB-71B5E21F09FB.jpeg

Please help me find the date code and other details of the engine in my 73 Vette.
Casting 28GM 3970010
Stamped serial number CFA124696, looks like a engine rework stamp, very worn I thinks that's it. Does not match car serial number.

Once u figure out the year of your motor u need the official FACTORY car or truck shop manual for that year to breck the rest of the code its in the first chapter of the manual. u can search for and download manuals off the net im not gonna do it for ya.

TDAD, what is the engine in and what are you trying to do with it? is it the original engine from the vehicle?

The number you are showing on the block is a standard casting number for a 5.7 engine, either a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main block.

KenN, The block casting number you posted won't necessarily match the cars VIN. There is another number that would match. As far as the 3970010 number, it is the correct block casting number for your car.
