Hi everyone, new here.
Question I can't seem to find an answer on, I have an older 283 block which I am trying to identify.
But question is, on the top front ridge of block where the manifold would mate to there is a 040 stamped into it.
Does anyone know why? I never seen this before.

Thanks
Dave

Hi nineeded,
Welcome to the forum. The numbers you speak of are assigned to that particular block from the factory to the foundry as a 'run-number' as far as I recollect and has no significant meaning as a builder or restorer. I could be wrong on this, it happens quite frequently. If you don't believe me, ask my wife .
Seriously though, please feel free to stalk the forum and contribute in areas that you have knowledge in. The forum is here for the benefit of the members and without the members, it would have no use. We look forward to seeing you around, and feel free to tell others about us.
