Hi Guys,

I am trying to determin the year of manufacture for the 350 chev motor that i have in my ski boat as i need to buy the rear starter motor bracket. I have shimed out the starter motor to 120 thou and still the starter pinion gear is getting stuck in the ring gear :(

The numbers that i have been able to locate are at rear of block 43 GM 14018207 C270 and the engine number is V1101VHR..
Any help would be appriciated,

Cheers,
Skins......

Hello Skins,

I don't have any information on your block but can make a suggestion. Remove the soleniod from the starter and bolt it back on the engine. By doing this you can manually move the bendix linkage in and out to determine if it is engaging properly. You may have to use a mirror and flashlight so you can see how the bendix gear is engaging in the flywheel. I can't recall how the starter shims are listed in accordance of the thickness, but you should be able to get a good idea on how much more the starter needs to be shimmed so it will engage properly.
