KATRAV8,

The engine that you have is a 5.0 (305 cu in) and was considered high performance. It should have an aluminum intake with a
4 bbl Quadrajet carburetor. It was rated at 150 BHP @4200 RPM and had 8.6 compression ratio. It had a maximum RPM of 4500 that was controlled by a rev lmiter. It had a torque of 239 lbs at 2200 RPM.

I finally have found more info.
The car had LU5 stock engine as body tag shows. They removed CFI and they put a 4 barrel carb.
According to VMD number car had been manufactured in July 1982. However the engine block (VIN V0511DUA) reveals that car's engine is truly a dual TBI /LU5 and the production year of it is 1983. The horsepower it is reported to be 165.
Is it possible for a 1982 car to have an LU5 which had been manufactured later in 1983? I know that LU5 in 1983 had horsepower up to 175. Also car although being a 1982 vehicle has turbo fin wheels which as i recall they were available as an option in 1983?
Is it possible that GM replaced engine to 1982 stock cars (which had been left unsold during 1982 period) with later engine (due to CFI problems during 1982 year) so that they can easily sell it during 1983?

Yes, it is entirely possible. The engines were made up in advance to the production date of the car. However, I am not familiar enough with the production dates to say this with absolute certainty. You say that you looked up the VIN to find the engine code of LU5? You can contact a Chevrolet dealership and ask for the parts department, they can look it up for you and tell you exactly what the car was produced with. The Chevrolet Z-28 and Pontiac Trans Am had the same engine options.
Both, the LG4 and LU5 were installed in the Chevy and Pontiac. It will be interesting to see what you find out. Both engines were identical except for the intake systems. Of course, the LU5 looked more ;) impressive .

I have got the brochure from PHS which reports all equipment that the car had when it was sold to first owner.
The car had CFI LU5 from start.
Also another interesting part has to do with the door molding. The brochure nowhere refers to it.
I know there were two options of bright and black door molding. My car has chrome molding with black vinyl rivets.
Does anyone know if chrome molding is trully stock or have been put on car by the car dealer?
