This is getting interesting, because GM only started casting 5.0 and 5.7 on blocks cast after 86 when the block went through a redign that made it a one piece rear main seal and than a year or two later, roller cam capable.

What is the casting # at the back of the block ?

207, 638, 880 number will start with a 10 or 14.

I was going to mention you have a bunch of cheaper (and much better) head options as GM made a bunch of small chamber heads in the 10 years preceding the Vortec, combustion chambers very similar to the vortec with wall design and more centrally located spark plug. The 217 casting is one example.

Don't know those numbers, i tend to just go with the casting #s at the back of the block and what's on the heads. lota donor motors come from pickups

Ive played with TPI, its a cool looking system specially if you polish the tubes, works relatively well, but they can be a bit of work.
If yours is an 87 i think thats gonna mean you have a MAF system, the MAF systems can be very precise but are only adaptive to a point.
The other TPI came out in the 90's and it is "Speed Density"
SD is considered the more hot rodder friendly setup but don't let that stop ya it didnt me.
Also there is the VATS to deal with (vehicle anti theft sys)
If i was gonna do TPI again i would switch to (wire into the harness) a newer style ECM (OBDll) or megasquirt brain, can't remember if all TPI's were batch fire.

I'm not using the tune port just the rest of the motor or at least thinking of it the rest of the car is junk I got it really cheap so I would be using the fitech injection with what ever manifold works best with cam
