help on info on 1956 ....265 3720991.casting date J262

I have come across a 1956 motor that is a 265. casting number 3720991...The casting date is J262.That being said.This block was used in 1955,1956, start of 1957. This date J262 is Oct 26 1952. Does any one have info of chevy casting this block in 1952???

Hello Rocky,

First of all I can assure you the block was not cast in 1952. Chevrolet did not have a V-8 until 1955. Below is the information I have on that casting number:

3720991....265...56-57...2 Bolt Main

As you already mentioned, Chevrolet used their existing stock of 265 engines in early 1957 and they were installed alongside the 283.
