1965 corvette roadster 365 hp
I need to understand what I got? I just bought a 1965 corvette roadster with what was represented to be numbers. But now I am concerned that I missed the casting disconnect.
The casting number on the block is 3782870 casting date is E145 and if pertinent the clock cast is 11 am on day shift.
The assembly pad on the passenger side reads F0427HH and has the correct last 8 digits of the VIN.
Did I buy re-stamped motor? And what are the chances of the 2 dates being only 18 days apart?
Thanks in advance I appreciate any feed back

Casting No. -

3782870 = '62-'67 327 w 2main cap bolts

Casting Date -

E 14 5 = likely April, 14th 19X5 at 11:00 (assuming '65, but don't know from this number alone)

Assy. Date/Code -

F = Flint, MI
0427 = April, 27th
HH =
'65 327, 365hp, 4bbl w/ man trans - most likely match
'66 327, 300hp, 4bbl w/ air injector reactor? - likely not a match as the year doesn't match vehicle yr model or assy date
'69 350, 300hp, 4bbl w/ turbo 400 (auto transmission I think) - year doesn't match casting no.

I think it's entirely possible that an engine is cast, shipped, then assembled within an 18 day window, especially if the casting plant were anywhere near Flint, MI, where it was assembled. So, I think you've got a 1965 327 w/ 365 stock hp from the factory, where it was cast and assembled in April of that year.

I just remembered, my casting date is 12/21/72 and assembly date (in Flint) is 01/03/73... that's a 13day difference! Assuming my numbers check out, that's an indicator that your engine may very well have been cast and put together within 18 days.

I mean, I've always heard that Flint, MI was the automotive manufacturing Mecca in its heyday.
