Hey guys im new here. Hoping i can find some answers. I just bought a 72 Z28 the guy i bought it from said it has a RARE 1969 DZ 302 motor in it. I really did not care as long as it ran good, and it did..I bought the project car. after research on a DZ 302 I guess i want to find out if it a true DZ or not.

The stamp on the front of the block you cant read. The stamp on the back of the block driver side is 3956618 used for a 302.
There is a gold tag (almost looking like a dog tag kinda. its oval ) stamped to the front of the block with 8545 on it. What does that number mean? also what numbers and where are they so i can see if its a true DZ302.

Any help finding more numbers and where they are.
thanks for your time
Anthony

Anthony,

Sorry for the delay, I have been out of action for a while. The casting number actually was found in the 69 302 DZ, but was also found in a couple other 68-69 cars.

3956618....302.....69....4 bolt main...Z-28 Camaro
3956618....327...68-69...2 bolt main
3956618....350.....69....2 or 4 bolt main.

I don't know about the oval tag on the front. I think I would try to clean the pad really well on the block behind the alternator and try to read the numbers. It should say DZ somewhere.
