I have a 1968 327 Vette with the HE motor. It is the correct casting number 3914678 and the date code is L227, so it was manufactured Dec22, 1967. The engine has been rebuilt the engine stamp on the head was smoothed out when the engine was rebuilt. This is the original motor, but now the engine stamp is gone. Can someone help me to get the correct number for the 1968.

I believe the 1967's would be something like....6122891 F0518HE......but don't know if this is the same for the 68's.

Thanks for the help.

He HE designates the following:
Code Year CID Vehicle HP RPO Trans Carb Comments
HE 65 327 Corvette 250 Base Manual 4-Brl Carter WCFB
HE 66 327 Impala 275 L-30 4-spd 4-Brl Hyd Cam, HD clutch
HE 66 327 Corvette 300 Base Manual 4-Brl Holley, Hyd Cam
HE 67 327 Corvette 300 Base Manual 4-Brl Holley, Hyd Cam
HE 68 327 Corvette 300 L-30 Manual 4-Brl Hyd Cam
HE 69 350 Nova 300 L-48 Power glide 4-Brl Hyd Cam
HE 69 350 Chevelle 300 L-48 Power glide 4-Brl Hyd Cam
HE 69 350 Camaro 300 L-48 Power glide 4-Brl Hyd Cam

The casting # 3914178 could have been a 1968 302, 327 or 350. If you are telling me me it is an original engine for the car it is very well possible it is a 68 327 300 HP, manual transmission with 4 bbl carb. Since the block has been decked it is anybody's guess what has been done to it.
